1. What is the TicketSource Scanning App?
The TicketSource Scanning app is a FREE companion app providing on-the-door barcode scanning and validation of etickets, mobile tickets and thermal tickets produced using TicketSource.
The app can be used on any iPhone or Android-enabled device and can be downloaded from Apple's App Store or Google Play, respectively.
The app checks the ticket reference against our database in real-time, so you’ll need Wi-Fi Internet access or a mobile connection at the venue to use it. You can have multiple devices scanning tickets at multiple entry points with live validation provided by the TicketSource servers.
2. How to use the TicketSource Scanning app
- Once you have downloaded the app, you will need to log in with TicketSource user account.
- Then select the event to start scanning tickets (you can scan for multiple events).
- Click the barcode icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the page to start scanning (The camera will recognise the barcode, no buttons need to be pressed)
- You can click Stats to see how many attendees have purchased tickets for this event, how many have been scanned and how many are remaining
- When you scan the barcode, it will highlight the page in green and say "Accepted" for valid tickets, red "Declined Already Scanned" for already scanned tickets, or red "Declined Not Valid" for fake/incorrect barcodes
- You can use the Guests option to search for and view all customers' tickets for the selected event, and you're able to manually check-in a customer by swiping their booking
- You can check the history of your scans, which contain the customers' details, by clicking on History
- All Scans is for when there are multiple entry points, so you can see which tickets other handsets have scanned
- There are extra settings you can configure to suit your needs, for example, the amount of time the scanned results show on the screen (from 1 second - 60 seconds). You can turn the scanned sound on and off, and you can turn the vibrate on and off
3. How to use a Bluetooth barcode scanner with the TicketSource Scanning app
The latest version of the TicketSource Scanning app for iPhone or Android-enabled devices provide support for Bluetooth barcode scanners, enabling you to connect and use a wireless barcode scanner to quickly and effectively scan customers' tickets.
To use a Bluetooth barcode scanner with the TicketSource Scanning app:
- Ensure the Bluetooth barcode scanner is paired with your device

- Choose the Settings cog in the top right-hand corner of the screen

UK Event Creators - Bluetooth barcode scanners are available to purchase from TicketSource by choosing the Account | Buy Add-ons menu option in your TicketSource dashboard.
4. How to use the app with no internet
You can download the TicketSource Scanning App for Windows from your TicketSource account on to your computer/laptop. It does not require an internet connection to scan tickets at the venue and operates as a standalone solution.
- To download, first, log into your Ticketsource account in a web browser
- Hover over the Scan menu at the top of the page and select the Ticket Scanning App for Windows option
- You can view the manual, which can also be downloaded. The manual can also be downloaded here.
Once the software is installed and while you still have internet access, start TicketSource Scanning App for Windows and import the list of event bookings into the app while you still have internet access.
5. Troubleshooting
There may be a few reasons why the TicketSource Scanning app isn't working correctly. Below is a list of the most common issues you may experience and how to resolve them.
Log in Issues
- If you are struggling to log in, please check you are using the same email and password you use when logging in to your TicketSource dashboard.
- Check that your user account has the correct permissions to scan tickets. If the user doesn't have access, an error message should pop up displaying 'Login failed. Your account does not have permission to use the TicketSource Scanning app' - In this circumstance, you would need to contact the account administrator on your TicketSource account to change the user permissions.
Events
- Not all events will show in the events list if your user account has restricted access to certain events. If the event you are looking for isn't appearing in the list, you would again need to contact the account administrator to change the user permissions.
- Once the finish time for the event has passed, it will no longer appear on the list. Therefore attendees can't be retrospectively scanned after the event has taken place within the app (they can be retrospectively scanned in through the Scan menu option within your TicketSource dashboard on a desktop/laptop browser).
Connection
- The signal strength of your Wi-Fi may affect how well the app works; please check that there is sufficient strength for your internet connection. A weak signal may cause the validation time to increase.
- If your internet fails, the app will also work with a mobile connection, provided you have enough data available and subject to local network conditions
Scanning
- The screen's brightness can affect the auto-brightness of the camera; you may need to adjust this setting for better performance.
- The app can scan barcodes off another phone/device, but the glare on the screen may take the scanner app longer to recognise the QR code. You can also tap on the screen of your device to manually focus the camera on detecting the barcode quicker.
