1. About Stripe Terminal

TicketSource offers support for Stripe Terminal, a payment card reader solution from Stripe for accepting Chip and PIN, Apple Pay, Google Pay and contactless payments on in-house bookings processed via your dashboard.

To accept in-person card payments, you will first need to ensure that you have Stripe Integration enabled on your account.

For BBPOS WisePOS E-card reader costs and transaction fees, please visit the Stripe website https://stripe.com/pricing

TicketSource does not charge booking fees on any in-house bookings.

To order the BBPOS WisePOS E-card reader from Stripe, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Log in to your Stripe dashboard,
  2. Click the More menu option, and select Terminal
  3. From this section, you will be able to buy your card reader,
  4. Choose the BBPOS WisePOS E card reader and follow the checkout process.

You should only choose the BBPOS WisePOS E-card reader option. Other card reader options are not compatible with TicketSource.

When you receive your BBPOS WisePOS E-card reader from Stripe, follow the setup instructions below to link the card reader between your TicketSource and Stripe accounts. To function correctly, the card reader requires an available WiFi connection (alternatively, a hardwired Ethernet dock is available from Stripe at extra cost) and must be located on the same local network as your TicketSource browser when processing payments for in-house bookings.

Once set up successfully, you can start processing card payments for your in-house bookings via your dashboard.

Please note: Stripe's card readers cannot be used to process ad-hoc payments directly via the reader itself. Stripe Terminal is the Chip and PIN and contactless payment card reader solution from Stripe.

The professional handset links seamlessly between your TicketSource and Stripe account, enabling you to effortlessly take face-to-face card payments for your events.

Turning the reader on and off

When you first receive the device, install the battery. With the back of the device facing you, lift up from the indentation at the bottom left corner to detach the back cover. Insert the battery by sliding it into the exposed slot with the gold connectors at the top aligned. Once the battery is in place, charge the reader. Connect the reader to power by plugging the provided cable into the port with the lightning bolt symbo

Once charged, hold down the power button on the right-hand side until the screen turns on. Once the device is powered on, pressing the power button once will sleep and wake the device. To fully power off the device, hold down the power button until the power off option is shown on the screen, then select it.

In a countertop deployment, leaving the device on for extended periods is expected.

Even when its not in use, leave the BBPOS WisePOS E plugged in and powered on to receive automatic software updates.

Accessing settings

To open the settings menu, swipe right from the left edge of the reader screen to reveal a Settings button. Tap the Settings button and enter the admin PIN 0-7-1-3-9. From here, you can update your WiFi settings or generate a pairing code for device registration. The battery percentage is displayed at the top right of this screen. To close the settings screen, click the back arrow in the top left corner.

Connecting the reader to the internet

Because the BBPOS WisePOS E is internet-enabled, its reader software communicates directly with Stripe, managing connectivity through a LAN. The reader must connect to the same local network as your TicketSource web browser.

WiFi

To connect to WiFi or switch networks, go to Settings then select Network to choose the network and connect. Attempting to join a new network disconnects the reader from any existing wireless connection.

Your WiFi network must use WPA-Personal or WPA2-Personal encryption and be password protected. Non-password-protected networks or enterprise networks are not supported.

Ethernet

Ethernet connectivity requires the use of an optional dock, which provides wired Ethernet connectivity and keeps your smart reader fully charged using the included charging cable. You can purchase the dock separately through the Stripe dashboard.

The Ethernet Dock features a 10/100 Ethernet port and rubber feet for stable countertop use and is designed for easy docking and undocking using the pins on the back of the reader. The dock has a minimum power requirement of 5V-2A (10W) and includes a charging cable, which you can plug into any USB-A power adapter (not included).

The reader obtains an IP address using DHCP. As soon as the network cable is plugged in, the reader attempts to establish communication with Stripe.

Network Priority

The BBPOS WisePOS E prioritises connecting through Ethernet if possible. Even if previously configured for WiFi, the reader switches to using an Ethernet connection when connected to the dock with a plugged-in Ethernet cable. If the reader is removed from the dock, it switches back to the WiFi connection.

The BBPOS WisePOS E resets its priority to Ethernet when rebooting. Even if previously configured for WiFi, the reader switches to Ethernet if it detects an Ethernet cable connection while starting up.

If the reader is docked, but there is no Ethernet cable plugged in, it uses WiFi. Regardless of connectivity while docked, you can still connect to Wi-Fi and manage networks on the device.

Default Reader Language

The BBPOS WisePOS E supports changing reader language in the Settings panel. Swipe right across the screen to access the Settings panel and select your language.

Troubleshooting

To begin troubleshooting, use the following common scenarios to help diagnose the issue.

Checking Connectivity

To check connectivity, go to Settings, then select WiFi settings. This will display all available WiFi networks. To see more details about the connection, tap on the connected network name.

  • Make sure the network is connected and has internet access.
  • The signal strength is good.
  • The device has an IP address assigned.
  • The subnet matches the one that your application is connected to.

Problems updating

If your reader doesn’t update, it’s possible that it can’t connect to Stripe. To check its connectivity to Stripe, go to Settings, then select Diagnostics. This displays a list of troubleshooting tests. Check Stripe connectivity and ensure it says Passed. If the Stripe connectivity test fails, please follow these steps.

Reader has IP address and can communicate with Stripe, but not with TicketSource

Make sure your TicketSource web browser and your reader can communicate over the local network (typically, this means they should be on the same subnet).

Stripe Terminal requires that both the TicketSource web browser and the reader be able to interact with specific domain names, all of which should be allowed listed on your network.

Stripe Terminal also requires that your reader be assigned an IP address in one of the private IPv4 address blocks.

Some DNS providers block the DNS resolution of local IP addresses. Stripe Terminal uses the partially qualified domain name *.[random-string].device.stripe-terminal-local-reader.net, which resolves to the local IP address of your BBPOS WisePOS E. If your DNS provider blocks local IP resolution, you should change the network settings on the device running your TicketSource web browser to use one of the following DNS providers:

  • Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1)
  • Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

If you are unsure how to change the DNS settings on your device, Stripe's article explains how to configure your network settings to change your DNS provider.

The Stripe reader software

Stripe maintains the software that controls the BBPOS WisePOS E. The reader receives updates automatically from Stripe when not in use. These can include improvements and required security updates from Stripe and our hardware partners. As reader software updates are made available, update your readers to the latest available version to continue using Stripe Terminal. Failing to install a required update can prevent a reader from accepting payments.

Leave your reader on and connected to power to receive automatic software updates. This ensures that updates happen at midnight (in the timezone of the assigned location) to avoid interruption to sales. If you unplug the reader at night, an update could start when you turn it back on. To manually check for an update, reboot the reader.

Reader software version

The BBPOS WisePOS E software consists of four components: the reader application, firmware, configuration, and key identifier. You can find your reader’s versions in the Diagnostics menu by swiping in from the left edge of the screen, tapping Settings, and entering the admin code, 0-7-1-3-9

3. TicketSource Setup

  1. Log in to your TicketSource dashboard and go to Account and select Payment Processing.
  2. Ensure that your TicketSource account is connected to your Stripe account and in-house bookings are set to Stripe payment processing.

  1. Click add card reader to associate a new payment card reader with your account.

  1. On your BBPOS WisePOS E-card reader, swipe right from the left edge, tap the Settings button and enter the PIN 0-7-1-3-9. Choose the Generate pairing code menu option to display a unique pairing code. Enter the pairing code in the settings window and click add card reader.

Upon successful registration, the card reader will appear in the list of card readers associated with your account.

  1. Finally, check your TicketSource web browser can communicate with your card reader by hovering over the card reader description and clicking . If your TicketSource web browser cannot communicate successfully with your card reader, please ensure your card reader is turned on. Otherwise, refer to the BBPOS WisePOS E Troubleshooting section.

4. Processing a card payment

Congratulations! You are ready to start processing in-person card payments for your events.

When processing an in-house booking, choose the STRIPE: In-house payment by payment card payment option on the booking summary page.

To process an in-person card payment, ensure your BBPOS WisePOS E-card reader is turned on. On the final booking page, click buy tickets and follow the instructions on your card reader’s display to process the payment and finalise your customer’s booking.

Alternatively, for card-not-present (e.g. MOTO, mail order and telephone order) payments, click enter card manually and key in the customer’s card details in your web browser.
